New England Patriots Head Coach and GM Bill Belichick is going all out this offseason. The Patriots have signed a plethora of stars in free agency including the likes of Matthew Judon, Jonnu Smith, Nelson Agholor, and Hunter Henry, it’s clear the Patriots are looking to get back to winning ways following a disappointing 2020 season.

Many see this as a departure from the Patriots’ usual way of running a business. But one NFL analyst believes that this is exactly what Bill Belichick and the Patriots have been good at over the past 2 decades.

NFL analyst Colin Cowherd had a rather interesting take on the New England Patriots‘ offseason spending. Talking about the general reaction in regards to the signing made by the franchise, Cowherd discussed the franchise’s policy over the past 2 decades.

“New England Patriots spent $232 million yesterday and this morning they went got Hunter Henry… And the media reaction is, ‘Whoa, this is not New England.’

“So what has New England been with their money over the last 20 years? Disciplined. They don’t go and get a lot of stars, they get productive players already in the league that are schematic fits,” he said during his show.

And not willing to be a part of the media herd, Cowherd explained why these moves are perfect for the franchise.

“Actually, all these moves are very New England. No stars, no divas, everybody’s a scheme fit. And there’s very little guaranteed money involved,” he added.

Further reiterating his point, the analyst said the deals are reasonable given that the players are young and healthy.

“These are reasonable deals to productive B and B plus players who are all young and have ability to stay healthy. That’s what New England does.”

Belichick has always been known to be a shrewd tactician. Very few GMs possess his quality of spotting value in players who’re not deemed superstars. Thus going by his track record, he sure has a plan to bounce back.
