Rob Gronkowski opens up about almost joining Tom Brady and the Bucs

When asked about it in the AP Pro Football Podcast, Gronkowski said, There was a little point, you know. Football’s always been in my heart, I love playing the game. I thought about it a few times. I wasn’t really close in order for me to go back to football. My whole mindset, everything would have to be flipped knowing like that’s what I was gonna do. But it never got to that point.

However, he did think about returning to the field again. Speaking about it, he said, Just a couple of thoughts here and there, like ‘Oh, how cool would that be, you know, if I go back, make some plays and help the team out, help them win some games’. That obviously came to my mind, but never came to a point where I was like I have to do it.

On-court achievements of the legendary duo

In the 2010 NFL draft, the New England Patriots picked Gronk in the second round. Since his rookie season, he developed a great bond with Brady on the field, as the TE scored 10 touchdowns. Later, they became really great friends off the field as well.

In 2015, Brady and Gronk won their first Super Bowl together. Then, they went on to win 2 more Super Bowls with the Patriots, in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Later Gronk announced his retirement, as Brady traded himself to the Bucs. In the 2020 season, Brady encouraged the Bucs to sign Gronk, which became an immediate success, and they won their 4th Super Bowl together.
