While there was talk that perhaps the Pittsburgh Steelers could very well try to make a deal for ace-level quarterbacks. The Steelers front chose a less risky yet elevated strategy by signing Mitch Trubisky. They have filled the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger with another Ohio citizen. The athlete, however, has a questionable scenario for the QB1 position, as Mike Tomlin believes he will face some struggles.

At the moment, the Steelers don’t have an ace quarterback. The Steelers believe the former no.2 pick has potential, and he brings the mobility that head coach Mike Tomlin wants in the position. Pittsburgh has 3 quarterbacks in the mix, and the clash for the QB1 will be some interesting aspect to monitor.

The race for QB1 feat. Mitch Trubisky

At the NFL’s annual meeting, Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin sat down with Missi Matthews to debate the team’s quarterbacks and other subject areas. Matthews’ concerns about the addition of another quarterback and competitive pressure for the starting quarterback stance during the off-season development camp.

HC Tomlin responds to her concerns, stating, “There certainly will be competition. There’s competition at all positions, you know. We’d be naïve to not take that approach. That being said, you know we were excited about acquiring Mitch. We do believe that he has the talent to win the job, but he’s going to have to win it, and he’s going to face some competition in the form of Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins. So I’m looking forward to watching those guys sort themselves out along with the other positions.”

After a year as a backup with the Bills, Trubisky, 27, signed a two-year, $14.25 million contract with Pittsburgh. The relocation signaled Trubisky’s potential return to the starting roster, but Tomlin’s comments indicate the competitive pressure among Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, Dwayne Haskins, and a potential inbound draft choice is still open.

Mitch Trubisky is an appealing deal for the Steelers because he is youthful, has been a season opener and postseason games as well. He cost the Steelers no draft choices in exchange for a quarterback. The athlete finished 67 percent of his passes for 2055 yards, 16 passing touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 93.5 passer rating in his last season as a starter; having nine opens in 2020.

However, Trubisky struggled at times with his precision near the goal line and never developed as a pass-catcher after displaying power early in his line of work.

The Steelers started their offseason by bringing in a quarterback with much more potency. Of course, signing Trubisky to a two-year deal does not prevent the Steelers from selecting a sophomore up in the draft, such as Malik Willis, who may require more time to establish.
