To make the matter strong, NFL insider Ian Rapoport stated on ‘NFL Total Access’ that the Chargers are actively negotiating the deal, with expectations that it will probably be finalized but yet fails to fall into a time frame. What’s in the works for the Chargers’ superstar?

During a segment on NFL Total Access, Ian Rapoport asserted that the Chargers’ primary focus is ensuring Justin Herbert remains their franchise quarterback for an extended period and that he is suitably rewarded for his contributions.

“No questions about how good he is, how effective he is in this Charger’s offense,” Rapoport added. “And the fact that they have new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore coming to help him reach that next level. All good things coming from Chargers.” However, on the contract point, allegedly Justin Herbert can even surpass $260 million, which is currently Lamar Jackson‘s deal with the Ravens.

Massive $295 million deal to offer?

In Year 3, Herbert demonstrated his determination by playing through injuries. He battled a painful broken rib cartilage during the first half of the season and a torn labrum in his left shoulder in Week 17. Despite these challenges, he led the ‘Lightning Bolt’ to their first playoff appearance in four years.

Now, he is up for a contract extension and is expected to become one of the highest-paid players in the league. According to SI’s report on June 14, 2023, Popper projected a massive six-year, $295 million deal for him, with $135 million fully guaranteed upon signing. There’s no doubt that Herbert will prove to be worth every penny. The 2023 NFL season kicks off with the Los Angeles Chargers facing the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 10 at SoFi Stadium.
