The NFL Competition Committee is set to meet this week to discuss several changes to the league’s playing rules. This meeting will take place in Indianapolis, and the committee would discuss the changes regarding the NFL overtime rule.

The overtime rule has been a hot topic in the 2021 NFL, especially in the postseason. NFL Network’s Judy Battista reported, “Rich McKay, chairman of the NFL’s Competition Committee, said Sunday there is no question proposed changes to overtime will be brought up. McKay said he expects some overtime proposals related to playoffs only, while others could include the regular season.”

Moreover, Battista reported that the Colts have submitted a proposal to ensure that each team possesses the ball during overtime. Moreover, if the committee implements the rule change, it will apply to both the regular season and the postseason. Nevertheless, she also stated that there is no certainty regarding the overtime rule change since it will require 24 votes from all 32 teams to pass.
