Few teams are having a season as underwhelming as the Carolina Panthers. Currently, at 2-7, the Panthers are grasping at straws to find a way to end their misery. After performing the old switcheroo during their game against the Cincinnati Bengals, it looked like the Panthers were going to settle their quarterback crisis.

Their original QB1, 2018 overall number-one draft pick, Baker Mayfield, was demoted. PJ Walker was happy to step into the role but faltered. A scoreless first half from Walker against the Bengals paved the way for Mayfield’s return to the field. Saving the Panthers from a disgraceful loss, Mayfield put some points on the board to ensure that the Panthers lost with some dignity.

Aside from the indecisiveness surrounding their current quarterback issue, the Panthers have gone a step further to activate quarterback Sam Darnold.

The 25-year-old quarterback was placed on injured reserve after suffering a high ankle sprain. While Darnold could provide the Panthers with a backup option, whether fans will get to see Darnold suited up on the field is questionable.

Fans troll the Carolina Panthers and Sam Darnold

After the news of Darnold’s activation was released, fans wasted no time in making their thoughts known. Reactions majorly ranged from sarcastic quips all the way to dismayed remarks.

After their  21-42 loss to the Bengals, interim coach Steve Wilks did not name a starting quarterback for the Panthers’ bout against the Atlanta Falcons. This quarterback crisis could play out interestingly.

But, ranked at the bottom of the NFC South, should the Panthers risk giving Darnold another shot? The team currently trails the Saints, Falcons and Buccaneers. Their lack of commitment to Mayfield or Walker could either help them find a better alternative in Darnold or backfire miserably.

Will the Panthers resolve their current crisis and turn this season around? That remains to be seen. Until then, fans can only look at the bright side. For now, that too remains unseen.
