As the offseason approaches, the Baltimore Ravens have been making significant moves. They’ve had some success with resigning and acquisitions. The team is looking at expanding the contract of quarterback Lamar Jackson, who is nearing the end of his existing agreement. This could be due to the absence of a proper agent; he can reflect on himself and cut a deal under his own aspects. But is this a conventional practice to not have a representative?

Quarterback Lamar Jackson doesn’t really seem to be in a jiffy to sign a contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens. Moreover, the franchise front is also getting impatient about this situation. Even though he signed a full-year $35 million extension, this makes us wonder about his future association with the Ravens, and what it means for the franchise’s upcoming 2022 season.
Ravens’ Perplexing QB1 Scenario
The Ravens Owner, Steve Biscotti, recently spoke to the reporters on Tuesday. When Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic asks about their contract situation with QB Lamar. Although he acknowledges Jackson’s authority to negotiate whenever he is ready, neither he nor General Manager Eric DeCosta is trying to pressure Jackson to speed up the process. It’s possible, according to Bisciotti, that the 2019 NFL MVP will not sign a new deal before the beginning of next season when he’ll be in the last year of his agreement.
He responds, “Unless he has a change of heart and calls Eric and says I’m ready. But it’s like Eric can’t keep calling him and say, ‘Hey Lamar, you really need to get in here and get this thing done.”

According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, Biscotti calls the situation ‘Unique as Hell.’ He’s been so fixated on winning the Super Bowl that I believe he doesn’t think he’s certainly worthy. “Now, I deserve to be on top,” he seems to say.

Lamar Jackson may take his time to make any further moves, leaving major speculations about why he may do that. There’s a possibility that the athlete himself is a representative of his own, as he doesn’t have a formal agent to do that part. While it may look like an unorthodox policy, numerous athletes like Bobby Wagner, DeAndre Hopkins, and Richard Sherman have negotiated their own contracts in the past.
As Lamar Jackson does not even have a conventional agent, Ravens’ GM Eric DeCosta said it’s been an “unusual negotiation” with him during his end-of-season press meeting last month.

Even though the Ravens have left the decision over the QB, they might very well maintain a top-five quarterback in the mix. With Jackson in the starting rotation, Baltimore has conclusively shown to be a persistent title contender. Although the longer there is no agreement, the more questions Jackson, as well as the Ravens, could encounter.
