Josh Jacobs is making a switcheroo with his jersey number – moving from 28 to 8 for the upcoming 2023 season. Now, the fans ain’t exactly thrilled about this pivot, mainly ’cause there are three big-shot quarterbacks who’ve rocked that number. But here’s the deal; the Las Vegas Raiders RB actually rocked the number 8 back in his college days at the University of Alabama. He tore it up on the field and ended up getting scooped up in the first round of the NFL draft.
This change is coming right off the heels of Jacobs’ best year yet. He bulldozed through the competition, racking up 1653 yards on the ground and slamming in 12 touchdowns during the 2022 season. The NFL shook things up a couple of years back by changing their jersey number rules, letting certain positions sport single-digit numbers. Jacobs is just one of the bunch who’s making the most of this rule change.

NFL reporter, Dov Kleiman, who’s all over social media spilling the beans about the switch. He even dropped a video of Jacobs donning his fresh number 8 jersey with all sorts of raw emotions splattered across his face. Truth be told, Jacobs seems to be digging the new vibe – there’s footage of him giving the thumbs up to the new jersey in a video the Las Vegas Raiders threw up on social media.

But, hang on a sec, ’cause there are some fans out there who were all about Jacobs’ old number 28. And the reason? Well, Aaron Rodgers hightailed it to the Jets in April and snagged the number 8, which he rapped back in his college days out in Cali. Rodgers is super confident about snagging a Lombardi trophy wearing that ‘8’.
Then there’s Captain Lamar Jackson – he got handed the number 8 when he first rolled up at Louisville. He’s already shouted out that he’s on a mission to snatch a Super Bowl victory while donning that number 8. After that, he’s got plans to do the same thing with the number 1 jersey, and he wants to hang both jerseys up in style with a Lombardi.
Vikings QB1 Kirk Cousins also has a little history with the number 8, having rocked it with the Washington Redskins before proudly sporting the #8 for Minnesota.
So, this whole deal about star players harking back to their college numbers? Well, it’s kind of becoming old school now. That’s the buzz around town, and it’s ringing true for our man Jacobs as well. Even the NFL fans are tossing in their two cents about it.

Do fans really like the ‘Eight’ for Josh Jacobs?
A fan directly questioned the number, and maybe unhappy: “Why 8?” While a fan again found the star Rodgers connection with the number: “Obvious attempt to be more like Aaron Rodgers.”
Since the jersey number is already donned this season by many, one fan said: “You’re late G” So, another fan suggested: “CHANGE IT BACK!!!” A person straightly said the truth: “Everybody wanting a number eight now.”
