Jerry Jones recently put out a funny jibe against his son and Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones, during a media presence before the NFL draft. Jerry says, “Our process has always been inclusive. We’ve said it. There’s a lot of talk in this business about who makes the call?  Who actually makes the call? Okay?… Taco was Stephen’s call. And Parsons is my call.”

After the Billionaire Owner cheekily remarked this, Stephen Jones replied as soon as the crowd calmed down from the laughter. The Cowboys Vice President says, “That’s not that funny to me.” The room was still in a joyous mood but there was a hint of truth to their statements.

At least, it can’t be definitively said that Defensive End Taco Charlton was a choice to be laughed at. Sure, he wasn’t not the level of player that Micah Parsons already is. But Parsons is on another level.

Jerry Jones Compares Taco Charlton to Micah Parsons

Without doubt, Micah Parsons was the steal of last year’s draft. A lot of GM’s would want to have that man on the roster. Parsons became a DYOP candidate in his first year. So aligns with Jerry Jones’ history, why he would want all the credit for it. Even if he said it jokingly.

Taco Charlton was drafted by the team in the 2017 draft, in the first round. He had 3 sacks in his first year where he started all 16 games. And improved on his overall numbers in the tackles and assists category.

But he was not happy with his role and even the team looked fazed about how to use him. So, he moved on after a trade request. Subsequently there was agreement by the team in his third year.

An amicable exit after a forgetful run

Yet, the exit was amicable but Jerry Jones taking shots at the Defensive End invoked a reply from Charlton as well. He tweeted just a gif, and it speaks a thousand words.

Successful or not, being drafted in the first round means a big payday for the draft prospects. And Charlton definitely got the pay day, plus will forever be enshrined as the first round pick the Cowboys got absolutely wrong. Maybe the two did not gel, maybe his playing style did not suit the team. Whatever the case might be, the Cowboys did misuse a first round draft pick which doesn’t happen very often.

But Stephen Jones was not having it at least to the point where the media was laughing. He does not look seriously offended. But he did say he did not find it as funny as the media room did. Meanwhile, the most awkward positioning in the room is Head Coach Mike McCarthy. He is sitting right between the father-son duo.
