The 49ers‘ latest win reveals a glaring problem for the Giants. In a stunning 13th consecutive regular-season victory for the San Francisco 49ers, quarterback Brock Purdy maintains his undefeated streak as a starter. However, the 49ers’ dismantling of the New York Giants on NFL Thursday Night Football left Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson in tears.

On “Nightcap with Unc and Ocho,” Johnson discusses the 49ers’ victory and critiques the Giants’ offensive strategy, particularly the decision to pay Daniel Jones $40 million a year. The Giants’ offensive strategy drew harsh criticism after their 30-12 loss to the 49ers.

The show’s host Shannon Sharpe & Johnson pointed out that the Giants failed to adjust their game plan in the absence of Saquon Barkley. Instead of adapting to fill Barkley’s void, they seemingly prioritized showcasing Daniel Jones as a capable quarterback, a move Johnson vehemently disagreed with. Johnson observed, “A $40 million-dollar quarterback? No.” He noted that the Giants’ receivers struggled to beat man-to-man coverage, highlighting a lack of creativity in their approach.

He said, “The 49ers’ defense played man-to-man across the board, and nobody could get open. That’s a sign of disrespect to that receiver room. It’s a sign of disrespect; the coaching staff knows you need a little bit more creativity.” Johnson recommended condensing the formation and making defensive backs back up or incorporating motion to address this issue.

Shannon Sharpe emphasized that the Giants’ offense heavily relies on Saquon Barkley’s effective running game. He questioned whether Daniel Jones could lead the team without Barkley. Johnson also raised concerns about the utilization of Jalin Hyatt and Darren Waller, highlighting the need to optimize their talents.

49ers D-line in Dallas-style

Did the 49ers’ offense falter without Brandon Aiyuk? Not a chance. Brock Purdy led confidently, while Christian McCaffrey’s versatility shone bright. But it was Deebo Samuel who stole the spotlight with his remarkable performance.

The 49ers’ defensive strategy was crystal clear – relentless man-to-man coverage, daring the Giants’ receivers to break free. Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave, Arik Armstead, and Javon Kinlaw formed a relentless defensive line, echoing “It’s kind of the Dallas principle,” as Sharpe noted.

Nevertheless, the absence of Saquon Barkley due to an ankle injury adds to the Giants’ woes. Reports suggest that Barkley may be sidelined for some time, raising questions about the team’s offensive strategy going forward.
