Taysom Hill was being run like a Swiss Army knife for the past five seasons under Sean Payton. The 31-year-old has played as a quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, and running back as well. All for the same team. Now, with Coach Payton gone from the New Orleans Saints, Hill’s hope of becoming a franchise quarterback is drawing to a close. Although he enters a new deal, the Saints may well not take him into account as the play-caller; Instead, use him as an offensive weapon.

Jameis Winston will now be the primary quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. Last week, the athlete signed a new contract and will be their QB1 for the upcoming season. This leads to the question of Taysom Hill and his status, whom the Saints use at QB whenever required.
Taysom Hill Going Back To Basics
From the Annual Owners’ Meeting in Florida on Tuesday, Saints’ New HC Dennis Allen provided some insight into Taysom Hill’s status. The athlete’s central emphasis this season, as per Allen, would be the tight end. Allen mentions, “If Jameis is out there playing quarterback, I don’t like Taysom standing next to me on the sideline. I think you’ll see him more in that type of role.”

According to The Times Columnist Jeff Duncan, It’s nothing new for the Saints to move Taysom Hill to tight end. Since last season, this has been in the works. His new agreement, in actuality, is structured to for a tight end. If he ever decides to take over and became the QB again, incentives are incorporated. However, the agreement is primarily a TE deal.

Whilst also classified as a quarterback on the Saints’ lineup for the previous 5 seasons, the former BYU twin-threat quarterback started 9 games as a starting player in the last 2 years. He went 7-2 and threw for 978 yards, 4 touchdown passes, and 5 interceptions in the previous season.

Is Hill the remedy for the Saints’ TE concerns?
The Saints’ most pressing need is at tight end, where they have never had a true game toggler since Jimmy Graham. So it stands to reason for Hill, who’s already proven his pace, ability, and great technique, to concentrate on that role.
Taysom Hill focusing on the tight end position makes complete sense. It will also permit the Saints’ offense to get Hill included in the plays more often, giving them more opportunities for using his multi-faceted abilities. As he pays attention to his new assignment, the athlete’s receiving skills might well improve. Taysom Hill may proceed to be a TE in the backfield, but he could become a powerful asset in the offensive structure.
