Kyler Murray was the first-choice pick at last year’s NFL draft. The Cardinals used their pick to bring Murray to Arizona before the start of the 2019 season. The 2018 Heisman Trophy winner arrived with great expectations but endured a rocky start to his rookie season.

However, he did show signs of improvement towards the end of the season. Kyler Murray even bagged the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2019.

One constant criticism that Murray faced last season was the large number of sacks he accumulated, something which he recently acknowledged himself.

Charley Casserly indicates an area of improvement for Kyler Murray

While speaking to the NFL Network in a short interview, former NFL General Manager-turned-analyst, Charley Casserly had some constructive criticism for the young quarterback, Kyler Murray.

“Well, he did a lot of positive things but let’s cut down on the turnovers. Specifically, the interceptions. Now, some of that is experience.

“But when you analyze the tape, some of those interceptions, it’s just careless. I mean, just throwing the ball up for grabs. The other times, I’m not sure if he sees the defender, it’s either his height or his experience,” Casserly said.

However, he added that Murray will get better with time. “Finally, when you talk to teams that play him they said, ‘Zone defenses gave him some problems’.”

“So, ‘What’s he (Kyler Murray) got to do better?’ Hey, ‘If it’s not there, take the sack and throw it away’. He’ll get experience reading defenses. I think he can cut those turnovers down, specifically the interceptions this year,” Casserly concluded.

Earlier this year, Murray accepted the blame for the large number of sacks suffered by Arizona last season. While speaking to USA Today, Murray said, “Last year, a lot of those sacks I feel were on me. I think it’s more important that they know each other and they are familiar with how each other plays. (There are) certain things that you can’t really teach by being with each other.

“I don’t think I’ll be putting those guys in that situation too many times anymore. If it happens, it happens, but I think we’ll be a lot better just from experience.”
