The Pittsburgh Steelers open their training camp and usher in a new era. It is the first time in Mike Tomlin’s tenure that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is not in uniform. Prospective starters now struggle to compete, and the Steelers have yet to identify one of the franchise’s top faces.
Mitch Trubisky, Kenny Pickett, and Mason Rudolph begin a contest to be the best. Obviously, Trubisky and Rudolph are not new to the league, and their experience can benefit the iconic team to prosper. However, franchise OC Matt Canada said on 93.7 The Fan that Rudolph has a ”great shot” at the task.
The Steelers OC mentions via Pro Football Talk, “Mason’s getting the second reps right now, almost equal to, maybe slightly less than, Mitch. He’s being given a very fair shot. To this point in camp, it might have been exactly equal. Mason has made a lot of plays at times, he’s played very well at times for us. He’s got a great shot at it. He’s being treated that way. His history with our plays, with our system, is a positive for him.”

While Matt Canada lands his choice for the starter, Mike Tomlin is not rushing into any decisions. The Pittsburgh Steelers HC mentions Tuesday that they are fending off overthinking the situation and acting rashly on the final decision. For Tomlin, it is a concerning yet exciting moment in what the future remains.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a difficult task in choosing Big Ben’s successor. Out of the three QBs, the veterans have an added advantage. Even though Kenny Pickett has an impressive collegiate record, the franchise might hold the plug on him this year. As of this writing, the Steelers’ QB1 remains a mystery. Any development is subject to reporting.
