Gisele Bündchen once refused to wear high heels before walking the ramp from a show. According to the supermodel, she is not comfortable wearing heels if they are too high. And to support her feelings, a study shows that around 71 per cent of women feel the same way about footwear. While it is unusual for a model to turn down a pair of high heels, the story shows it is not without its fair share of reasonability.

Bündchen is a veteran when it comes to taking a catwalk. But there are things that even she would not cope with. And high heels are one of them. As per the model, she finds it scary to walk in heels if they are too high. She even once refused to wear the footwear prior to a show. According to designer Nicolas Ghesquiere, the supermodel with a few others, said no to the footwear he designed before a Balenciaga show.
Ghesquiere explained that Gisele with models, Amber Valletta and Carolyn Murphy, refused to walk with his high heels during the show. “They were not used to walking in heels anymore. Gisele was worried she would not walk in my heels,” added the designer.
Gisele Bündchen is not alone
In 2014, the American Podiatric Medical Association published the results of a podiatrist survey. The study shows the people’s attitude towards foot health, taking the responses of 1000 US adults over the age of 18. The study found that almost half of the women wear high heels (49%). Even though the majority of those who wear them, do complain about it.
I used to LOVE super high heel shoes. And because I’m already tall, it was fun to be even taller. Now when I see women on TV wearing them it seems archaic, strange and wrong. I have a closet full. I don’t even want to donate them because I don’t want to be a bad influence.

Around 71% of those who wore high heels were not completely comfortable in them. For them, the footwear often caused pain in their feet. Matthew G Garoufalis DPM explained, “Daily heel-wearing can cause the Achilles tendon, the strong tendon at the back of your ankle, to shrink. This increases your risk of an injury while doing activities in flat shoes, including exercise.”

So the supermodel’s refusal to wear the footwear makes more and more sense. She was eventually seen in High heels, but only in moderation and much less frequently.
