The past week has been a whirlwind for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly Stafford. Rams’ QB shared his regret at not being able to react promptly to the unfortunate incident involving photographer Kelly Smiley. The 34-year-old was at his weakest during the Rams victory parade and his lack of urgency drew the ire of some fans.

As a guest on his wife Kelly Stafford’s ‘The Morning After’ podcast, he opened up about the unfortunate incident. The scary incident that went viral on social media portrays her husband to be not concerned and walking away from the injured photographer.
It is not the finest judgment made by the Rams QB, under influence of alcohol, but his wife rushed to check on Smiley immediately.
While talking about his regret on inaction towards the incident, wife Kelly Stafford states, “I do know that the reaction that the world saw, right, in that split second, I do know that’s not what you wish would have been your reaction.” The regret from the Staffords was quite clear, and there are things they did behind the scenes.
Matthew Stafford showed his class and concern for the injured photographer
In the duration of the podcast, Mrs. Stafford defended her husband as he was concerned about Smiley and her falling off the stage. When the incident happened, she claims Matthew asked her to check on Smiley while being unaware of the severity. But both found out much later how bad Smiley was injured only on the next morning.
She also stated that Matthew requested her to check in with the Los Angeles Rams franchise on Smiley’s condition. The Rams QB also texted Smiley, following their knowledge about the severity of her fractured spine.

It appears to be an incident, taken out of proportion by some fans who called out the Rams QB. It seems the opinion was formed while not knowing what had actually transpired.

The Staffords, since knowing the severity of her injury, have offered to cover the medical and equipment charges. It seems a genuine concern from the Rams QB and his family, who want to help Smiley recover quickly.
