Patrick Mahomes is chasing after the Super Bowl and MVP titles. But the quarterback has also been nominated for another award that is worth more than the aforementioned awards combined. It is often assumed that the highest honor that could be bestowed on a player in the NFL World is the MVP or Super Bowl trophies. But, there’s more to sports than just winning on the field.

On Tuesday, the NFL revealed 32 nominees for an award that is considered with high regard. To be nominated for the most prestigious award is truly an honor. The Walter Payton Man of the Year award is no small matter.

Every year 31 nominees receive about $40,000 that is donated to a charity of their choice. The winner receives $250,000 which is once again, donated to a charity of their choice.

Will Patrick Mahomes be bestowed with the highest honor?

Kanas City Chiefs quarterback and MVP front-runner Patrick Mahomes was one of the league’s 32 nominees for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. Mahomes, who has been breaking and resetting records week after week, finds himself nominated for another prestigious trophy. But, unlike other laurels, this one has a far greater impact on those who are in need of support. The quarterback’s wife Brittany Mahomes, was ever the supportive partner. Brittany took to Twitter to express her support. She tweeted, #WPMOYChallenge

The NFL world reacted to Brittany’s tweet and clamored in to express their support of Patrick Mahomes’ nomination. One user appreciated the quarterback and said that Kansas City sports couldn’t have a better ambassador. High praise indeed.

Another fan urged others to vote for the quarterback and believes that he is deserving of being bestowed with this honor.

This fan encouraged Brittany to block out all the haters. Brittany Mahomes is no newcomer to getting trolled online, but fans like this one encourage her to keep pushing despite what others say.

Many in the NFL world showed their support but some fans were especially bitter after the Chiefs lost to Joe Burrow’s Bengals, which prompted comments like

But fans were quick to come to Brittany’s defense.

Offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth was the winner of the award in 2021. Other players nominated this year include Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Jared Goff from the Lions, and Giants running back Saquon Barkley, among others. The winner of the prestigious award will be revealed at the ‘NFL Honors’ before Super Bowl LVII.
