Deshaun Watson tops the list

According to the recent reports by Michael Ginnetti, the editor for Spotrac, Deshaun Watson leads the list of most contracted cash players. The Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, Kevin Durant & Aaron Rodgers are far away behind him.

The deal between the Cleveland Browns and Deshaun Watson agreed on a five-year, $230 million contract. It was a record-breaking deal in the history of the NFL, giving him a raise over $80 million, compared to his previous contract.

Earlier, the former Houston Texans quarterback held discussions with the Panthers and other NFC South clubs. Reports even claimed that he rejected the Browns deal; however, this contract will ultimately change the entire landscape of the NFL.

For the Browns, it was the need of an hour to find a replacement for their current QB. Indeed, it is an absolute sense of achievement for the team as they were eying for the star QB for many days reserving adequate salary cap space for him.

Watson and his tumultuous past

It’s no wonder Watson is an absolute bull when it comes to gameplay and leading a team from the front. His abilities are far-reaching and effective. And that is one of the reasons he grabbed a lucrative deal in recent times.

However, he was able to do so only after he was acquitted by the Houston grand jury a few days ago. In 2021, Watson was accused of some criminal activities leading to 22 civil lawsuits filed against him. As a result, Watson was benched for the entire season and couldn’t feature for the team in any of the matches.

Watson never had to undergo any disciplinary actions by the NFL committee. And with the verdict that freed him from all the allegations, helped Watson return to the field. As soon as the news broke out, teams were keen to make deals with him. Soon after weeks of negotiations, Watson was able to find a splendid landing spot this season. It’s yet to see how much impact he can create in the upcoming season of the grand football league.
