The New England Patriots are on the warpath. After a poor showing last season, Bill Belichick and the franchise have done a lot of work.

They re-signed Cam Newton to a big new contract. Furthermore, the Patriots have made a few more signings in free agency and are looking to bolster the squad and make an impact next season. But Stephen A. Smith believes that there is more to it.

Stephen A. Smith addressed the New England Patriots‘ new acquisitions. He believes that Bill Belichick is bolstering his squad in order to go after Tom Brady.

Belichick will want to prove his doubters wrong. Not only because their season was bad, but because of the success Brady had with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after leaving the Patriots.

He said, “He’s coming after Tom Brady. Let’s call it is what it is. It’s one thing to lose Tom Brady and to not be what you are. It’s another thing to watch him go someplace else but it’s another thing to watch him go someplace else.

“In his first year there, he wins the Super Bowl. Not just because he’s still a star quarterback.” 

Bill Belichick looking for redemption

Smith added that Belichick must be upset because the Buccaneers allowed Tom Brady to have a big say in who gets to be a part of the team.

He noted how competitive Bill Belichick can be, and will want to prove both Tom Brady and all the other critics wrong. Belichick wants to defend his legacy going into the new season.

“But also he played the role of GM and basically made the decisions as to who should be on the team and who should be added to the team. The Antonio Browns, Rob Gronkowskis of the world.

Can Bill Belichick bring the Patriots back to the promised land? He has made a lot of moves going forward and brought several players into the fold.

Last season was a disappointing affair for Belichick and the Patriots. But given their efforts so far, the Patriots should be looking to climb the top of the mountain the next season.
