NFLPA President JC Tretter has thrown his weight behind Lamar Jackson as the fallout from his negotiations with the Ravens continues. He has clarified that the union is with the QB in whatever he wants, and it is Jackson who has to make a decision.
“We’ll stand by Lamar whatever he wants to do for himself. I think somewhere it says the union is using Lamar. Lamar is gonna make the decision that’s best for Lamar and we want whatever decision is best for Lamar,” Tretter said on the ‘Pat McAfee Show’.
Many reports have claimed that Jackson wants a fully guaranteed contract from the Ravens. But more recent reports contradict them in various ways. The only person who knows what Jackson wants is Jackson himself. The NFL has already issued a memo to all the teams in the league that they shouldn’t to anybody but him if they want to negotiate with him.
Now that he has got the NFLPA backing, Jackson can continue his hunt for a new franchise. But how did it all come to this?
The fallout of the star
Lamar Jackson has played for the Ravens for half-a-decade since coming to Baltimore as a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft. He has achieved a lot with the franchise, including the league MVP award in the 2019 season. The QB has put on amazing numbers over the years and the Ravens do want to keep him. Then how did it all come to this?
It is the contract amount that is the bone of contention between both the parties. While many reports say that Jackson wants a fully guaranteed contract like Deshaun Watson. More recent reports say that he doesn’t want a fully guaranteed contract but wants the guarantees to be higher. The QB did reject a contract that had $133 million in guaranteed money.

The Ravens have put a non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, making him a restricted free agent. While he can talk to any team, the Ravens will get two first-round picks in the event of a trade. Will that become another roadblock for Jackson this offseason? Or will he get a landing spot away from Baltimore? Do share your thoughts in the comments.
