Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes comes under this category of being one of the humblest and kind personalities in the NFL. His Niners counterpart Jimmy Garoppolo once recalled the incident, where Mahomes came all the way down to console him.

It was indeed an unexpected success for a young Patrick Mahomes to climb the ladders of fame with a Super Bowl victory in 2020. However, it is to be noted that the success wasn’t an overnight deal but the hard work of many years that bore fruit for a 24-year-old to pull up a fight with an experienced signal-caller, Jimmy Garoppolo. While speaking to the reporters ahead of the Super Bowl game, the Niners quarterback recalled an incident involving Mahomes.

Back in 2018, he was playing against Kansas City in Week 3 of the season. It was his second year with the Niners, and he tore his ACL, which further drowned his entire 2019 campaign.

After the knockout, Mahomes came all the way to the locker room to express his support. “For him to come out of his way after the game and wish me luck and everything. (He’s) a real class act…,” Garoppolo said. “For him to do something as simple as that. It went a long way,” he added.

It was Mahomes’ fourth game of his career, and by the end of the season, he was awarded MVP. For Garoppolo, it was a surprising moment, and receiving such gestures from a young opponent shows the values and class he carries forward.

The 2019 season was one of the most successful campaigns of Garoppolo’s entire career. He ended the season with a 13-3 record and led the team toward a Super Bowl game.

“Obviously some throws I wish I had back, some throws I made differently,” Garoppolo said after the game. “The one to ‘E,’ just missing him, putting a little too much on it. But you’ve got to be a man, you have to own up to those things. Some things I’d rather have back. But this whole year, it’s been incredible.” he added to his explanation.
