Although the term ‘Football’ might mean different things in different parts of the world, there are only a few who haven’t heard of Lionel Messi and Patrick Mahomes. While Messi clinched the World Cup victory in December last year, Mahomes also won the Super Bowl just a few months later. In a turn of events, Messi signed a contract with the US-based soccer club, Inter Miami last month, adding more weight to the US soccer industry. After a month of intense anticipation, the soccer legend finally touched down in Miami, while the ESPYs were being held.
It was very expected for both of the legends to be featured for the said accolade for their peak excellence in sports. However, they both raised the bar by dominating the award show with multiple awards.

Several faces from the sports industry, from the likes of Mike Tyson to Travis Kelce, were present at the event. Mahomes went with his wife, Brittany, looking fabulous as ever. Nevertheless, there was a lot on the line for the Chiefs‘ QB, as he was nominated for three major awards. Then, to anyone’s expectation, Mahomes sealed his win for the Best Athlete award in Men’s category, sending shockwaves all throughout the sports industry.
Prime athletes like Nikola Jokic, Aaron Judge, and even the soccer legend, Lionel Messi, were nominated for the same award. However, Mahomes was the one who concluded the awards with the last laugh. Even though LM10 missed out on the best award of the night, he excelled in other categories, raising the bar for the 2x MVP. The soccer legend outperformed other nominations by miles, securing two major awards, including ‘Best championship performance’ and ‘Best Soccer Player’.

Messi wasn’t the only one with multiple awards, as Mahomes clinched yet another. As if the best award of the night wasn’t enough, the 2x MVP settled his score with the soccer legend by winning the ‘Best NFL Player’, tying the score of awards count.
The NFL world celebrated yet another achievement from the ESPYs
Mahomes wasn’t the only sole recipient of awards, as a great honor was bestowed upon the Buffalo Bills. The team’s training staff was presented with one of the grandest privileges in the sports industry. For their courage and service to revive and restore Damar Hamlin’s heartbeat after a brutal collision on-field, the team’s medical and training staff were presented with the prestigious Patt Tillman Award. It was Hamlin himself who presented the said awards, which moved him to tears on stage, while the arena-filled athletes and celebrities gave him a cheering standing ovation.
