“So Disappointing”: Fans Left Raging After Patrick Mahomes Gets Stripped Off the Kentucky Derby Spotlight

Chiefs fans are upset again, which is pretty weird because the team just won a Super Bowl less than three months ago. So why the outrage? It was supposed to be a day of excitement and celebration as the world tuned in to watch the 2023 Kentucky Derby. At the forefront, delivering the ceremonial “Riders Up” was none other than the heartthrob of Chiefs Nation, Patrick Mahomes. 

Fans couldn’t wait to see their favorite QB and the face of their franchise open the iconic Kentucky Derby. But tragedy struck for the absurdly excited fans who tuned into KSHB-TV just to get a glimpse of the opening moment of the Derby. One might even say fans were swept away like a tornado as their expectations shattered.

Fans lash out after Patrick Mahomes Derby debacle

As Mahomes stepped up to give the ceremonial call, viewers across the country were glued to their screens, eager to witness the moment. But just as the QB began speaking, the coverage was cut short. KSHB-TV, the local channel covering the event, cut away to a weather update, citing a tornado warning. Fans were, of course, left raging, as their favorite QB was stripped of his spotlight. 

Fans were especially angry as they called out the news channel for shutting out Mahomes.

Fans were disappointed that the show couldn’t let Mahomes’ segment finish before cutting off.

Some fans, though, did find the situation to be hilarious as they made ironic jokes about debacle.

This fan even jokingly called out the channel for the audacity to cut out Mahomes.

Many criticized KSHB for its decision to cut away from Mahomes, calling it a missed opportunity and a disservice to viewers. Some even suggested that the news service could have let the segment go on for a bit and let Mahomes’ part finish before cutting out.

But at the end of the day, most fans certainly acknowledge the weather crisis and are talking in jest.

Patrick’s appearance at the Kentucky Derby was not just a special moment for his iconic opening call for the race. His appearance was also special as it marked the first public appearance for Mahomes and his wife Brittany since the controversial arrest of younger brother Jackson Mahomes in a scandalous case for the Mahomes family.

Ever since the arrest, the couple has maintained their silence on the incident. After their Met Gala debut, the derby marked their first official public appearance since the debacle. Although they have remained silent, they have continued to be present and active on social media.
