Former 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is a very talented athlete, but he is also a collector at heart. Like many other people, he loves to collect things he loves. Of course, being an NFL star and earning millions is always a bonus when you have a penchant for collectibles. This is definitely all the more true for Kaepernick’s possibly exclusive collection.

By his own admission, Kaepernick is a sneakerhead. He loves collecting sneakers. And not just any random one at that. He boasts a massive collection of some of the world’s most expensive sneakers. He even has a special place to store his vast collection. But in 2017, Kaepernick did something with his collection of exclusive sneakers which would warm the hearts of many.

From Colin Kaepernick’s garage to organizations for the homeless

Kaepernick’s sneaker collection first came to light when he displayed it through his Instagram handle. It wasn’t like a regular person’s collection of a few dozen shoes. Kaepernick’s collection literally went into the hundreds. In fact, fans have estimated that Colin had approximately 400-500 sneakers in his collection.

It further helped that he was the brand ambassador for Nike, which possibly led him to collect prototypes and other designs which no one ever had. He even found an innovative way of storing them- by turning his garage into a shoe closet. The collection of shoes would have cost a small fortune and with their storage and maintenance considered, Kaepernick must have made a significant investment in it.

In 2017, he donated his entire sneaker collection to homeless shelters in the San Francisco area, as he felt he had more than enough to give back to the neediest sections of society. In a video shot by his girlfriend from 2017, we see Kaepernick packing up a van with his prized sneakers along with clothes and hats. They then drive around San Francisco giving these to organizations caring for the homeless.

It is a different matter that most may not have been able to wear Kaepernick’s sneakers because of the incredibly large size Colin wears; approximately size 13-14. But the exclusive nature of the shoes, as well as who they were from, would have definitely fetched impressive prices from the thriving sneaker resale market.

Around this time, Kaepernick also pledged to give away $1 million for the welfare of oppressed communities. He planned to give away $100000 every month for 10 consecutive months in order to meet his pledge. This was his way of supporting charities that were trying to work for oppressed communities.
