Daniel Jones, the successor to Eli Manning as the New York Giants‘ quarterback, has the potential to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Tom Brady. Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, has had an illustrious career, winning six championships with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Interestingly, the Giants led by Manning were the only team to defeat Brady twice in the Super Bowl, in the memorable games of XLII and XLVI.

Jones, who was once criticized by his biggest promoter, has shown remarkable growth and has the potential to enter the realm of greatness associated with Tom Brady. While it may be too early to draw direct comparisons, Jones has displayed flashes of talent and potential that can’t be overlooked. As he continues to develop and gain experience, could he reach the same QB-caliber as Brady, and be a worthy successor to Manning?

Something unexpected happened when Chris Simms, a former quarterback, and NFL analyst, made a comparison between Jones and Brady. Simms, who is 42 years old, praised Jones for pulling off some incredible plays and throws that seemed impossible. What makes this comparison even more remarkable is that Simms changed his mind after Jones’ improved performance in 2022.

“Size is a skill… Daniel Jones, to me, is in a small class of quarterbacks in the NFL, where he can throw over the line of scrimmage. It keeps a variety of completions and throws still available to him that is not available to most quarterbacks in football, and it’s a short list. You know, him, [Justin] Herbert, Trevor Lawrence, Brady could kinda do that.” – Chris Simms.

Simms ranked Jones as the 11th-best quarterback in the NFL for 2023, ahead of Brady who was 8th in his 2022 rankings. Simms praised Jones for being able to throw over the line of scrimmage and hit tight-window throws with incredible control.

Chris Simms is impressed by Jones’ ability to throw the football with accuracy and control. He says that Jones often faces situations where none of his receivers are open, yet he still finds a way to move the chains or get positive yards.

“Go back and watch. I mean, he’s got games where you go 10-12 plays in a row where you go, ‘there’s nobody open,’. and he’s still getting completions or still getting positive yards. He’s a high-level thrower of the football,” per Chris Simms.

Simms likens him to Kirk Cousins, another quarterback who excels at hitting the bullseye on tight-window throws. A prime example of Daniel Jones’ talent was a 33-yard touchdown strike to Darius Slayton in Week 7, which sealed a 23-17 victory for his team over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Interestingly, Jones succeeds to change his biggest critic’s mind, will he be able to surprise more? Only time will bring the reports.
