Aaron Rodgers is unquestionably one of football’s greatest quarterbacks. Having achieved nearly everything imaginable in his 18-year tenure with the Green Bay Packers. He secured a Super Bowl victory and the prestigious MVP title in 2011, while also earning 10 Pro Bowl selections and four All-Pro team honors. He was named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. Now, he is ready to start a new chapter with the NY Jets and bring his skills to their loyal fans. But despite his impressive resume, there are still people who doubt him.

Not everyone is convinced that the Jets made a smart move. Among those skeptical is ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, one of the most respected analysts in the business. In his harsh critique, he ranked the Jets among the worst teams in the league and questioned their logic. Barnwell believes Rodgers is past his prime and not worth the risk.

The Jets made a bold move by acquiring Aaron Rodgers, the seasoned 39-year-old quarterback, who was previously with the Green Bay Packers. Despite his underwhelming season, they took the chance. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell was not impressed by the Jets’ decision and ranked them 23rd among the 32 NFL teams, below even the Houston Texans.

In his analysis, Barnwell contended that the Jets overspent on Rodgers, set to earn $60 million in 2023 and $49.3 million in 2024. Additionally, he highlighted Rodgers’ 26th rank in QBR, sandwiched between Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson. Barnwell suggested that the Jets could have opted for a cheaper and younger alternative, such as Dolphins’ QB Teddy Bridgewater (age 30, 6-2, 215 lb)  who is still a free agent and has performed well for teams with strong defenses.

“Yes, the Jets needed to upgrade at quarterback. Let’s say that they could have had Teddy Bridgewater, who has been perfectly acceptable for teams with great defenses in the past, with his tenures in Minnesota and New Orleans as recent examples. Bridgewater is nine years younger than Rodgers, has been beloved everywhere he has gone as a pro, and is still available as an unrestricted free agent.” shared Barnwell.

Barnwell concluded that only a Super Bowl victory would justify the Jets’ gamble on Rodgers, otherwise, it would be one of the worst trades in recent memory. Well, who got the top position as a contender for Super Bowl?

Jets’ Savior: Rodgers and their ambitious plan

The Jets had a burning desire to land Rodgers, who was fed up with the Packers’ front office and demanded to be traded. They gave up a hefty haul of picks to get the disgruntled star, who they believe can be their savior. To achieve victory with Rodgers, their strategy entails building a youthful and skillful roster, encompassing offense and defense. Some of the key pieces they have in mind are Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, Breece Hall, Sauce Gardner, and Quinnen Williams. They also expect Rodgers to bounce back to his MVP level and end their long playoff drought that dates back to 2010.

The Jets’ hopes hinge on Rodgers’ health and performance. The 39-year-old quarterback has battled injuries in the past and recently suffered a minor calf tweak. He shrugged it off as nothing serious, but the Jets can’t afford to lose him. Rodgers has the potential to transform the Jets’ offense and make them a force to be reckoned with if he can recapture his MVP form. But if he falters or falls, the Jets have no viable backup plan at quarterback.
