The days are arduous for Coach Prime. Deion Sanders, the renowned former head coach of Jackson State football, embodies more than just expertise on the field; he possesses an infectious sense of humor that defies the gravity of any situation. In this instance, he once again tackles a serious threat with a lighthearted approach.
A few months ago, Sanders embarked on a new chapter as he took over the Colorado Buffaloes, signing a lucrative 30-million-dollar contract. He expressed his desire to rebuild a struggling Buffaloes squad that had managed just a 1-11 record last year. However, the present scenario casts a shadow of uncertainty over the team’s future, as Sanders finds himself confronting a formidable challenge. Nevertheless, true to his nature, he approaches the situation with levity.

Last year, former Baltimore Ravens‘ player Sanders underwent surgery to have his big toe and second toe on his left foot amputated due to the development of three femoral arterial blood clots. Since then, he has been enduring immense pain. Recently, during a conversation broadcasted on the channel ‘Thee Pregame Show,’ Sanders engaged in lighthearted banter with his medical team. While discussing his expectations for a speedy recovery, Sanders said, “I don’t have feeling in the bottom of my foot at all.”
He further asked, “I just want to know what we could do, because I want to do it this summer because when we get rolling I’m not that time to do it.” In response, one of the medical staff members jokingly commented, “They didn’t do toe pressures because it’s hard because you don’t really have a good toe to get a little tough road and get a pressure.” Sanders playfully retorted, “I think I’m now sitting right here and you clowning me.” But how did all these happen?
A painful start
Deion Sanders recently made a startling revelation that he underwent the amputation of two toes on his left foot due to life-threatening blood clots that were discovered following his surgery last fall. An episode of Coach Prime provided an inside look into Sanders’ hospital stay in Mississippi. Initially, Sanders had surgery in September last year to address a dislocated toe and an inflamed nerve. Despite making a comeback to the football field sidelines with the help of crutches and a golf cart, complications arose, resulting in a subsequent 23-day hospitalization and multiple additional surgeries.

During this time, Sanders received a diagnosis of three life-threatening femoral arterial blood clots and developed compartment syndrome, which led to increased pressure in his leg, reduced blood flow, and swelling. After undergoing a total of eight surgeries, Sanders ultimately had to undergo the amputation of his big toe and second toe on his left foot. Furthermore, he endured a significant weight loss of 35 pounds during his extended hospital stay.
