New England Patriots offensive lineman Cole Strange had one of the most unique first contact conversations during the 2022 NFL Draft. The former UT-Chattanooga prospect was watching the TV broadcast of the event from his home in Lenoir City, Tennessee. When the call eventually came up for Strange, the player was in disbelief and a bit wary of some other aspects.

Strange was seen as one of the best guard prospects in the entire Draft and wasn’t expecting an early call during the night. As the clock struck 11 pm, Strange got his life-altering Draft call but was a bit skeptical about the timing and who was speaking on the other side.
He was with his father, Greg Strange, during the entire ordeal and shares the details about his experience.
Cole Strange thought he was being pranked when the #Patriots called him.
"Sir, I don’t mean to be disrespectful at all, but I’ve gotta know because I’ve got some crazy friends. Is this a prank?"
Then Bill Belichick started talking.

While talking about the call, his father states, “(Cole) said, ‘Sir, I don’t mean to be disrespectful at all, but I’ve gotta know because I’ve got some crazy friends. Is this a prank?’ The guy said, ‘Hold on just a second.’ And then Bill Belichick got on the phone, and of course, unless you’ve been under a rock for the last 20 years, you know Bill Belichick’s voice.”
Cole Strange could be the perfect fit for Bill Belichick’s Patriot Way system
After impressing during his college years, Strange seems ready to take the next challenging step of playing in the NFL. The Patriots have been looking forward to filling two of their empty starting guard spots for the upcoming NFL season. While his 1st-round draft status virtually warrants him a starter berth, Belichick will be keen to check him out on the grass before making any decision.
Former Chattanooga head coach Nick Hennessey believes that Strange can carve his space out in the league. He points to how Strange has the intangibles of becoming a great NFL guard due to his hardworking attitude and humble approach to the game.
Hennessey believes that Strange’s bruiser and physical play will appease the Boston fans and allow Strange to become a starter immediately.
