A lot of people had “doubted” Coach Prime’s “uncomfortable” ways, but those moves made history on Saturday. The first game of the 2023 season which ushered in the Deion Sanders era at Colorado will go from making headlines to becoming benchmarks in NFL history. Coach Prime walked in with 86 new Colorado players, most of whom he had handpicked before remodeling the roster, and took down TCU 45-42, against Horned Frogs, a team who played for the national championship the previous year.

Prime might have dictated the team, but the win was dedicated to two Jackson State underdogs. With one of them sharing a special relationship with the coach himself.

“The offense is so explosive” Skip Bayless on the recent episode of “Undisputed” was absolutely thrilled by the performance put forth by Cololorasdo Buffalos, especially with the two young men in shining armours.

“They have the best receiver and the best quarterback on the field because it is the same person,” says Bayless referring to 21-year-old Shedeur Sanders, who broke multiple records. He threw an impressive 38 of 47 passes for 510 yards, recording the highest passing yardage achieved by a player in his FBS debut in the last 25 years. Additionally, he became the first-ever Colorado quarterback to surpass the 500-yard milestone. “Shedeur Sanders was flawless. He is BIG TIME! It might even translate to the next level as in, he can play on Sundays.” Bayless concluded.

The ‘true freshman’ that no one knew much about, except Coach Prime’s praise, surprised everyone, and it’s easy to see why. Travis Hunter took the field for a staggering 129 snaps and became the first Division I player in the last two decades to accommodate both 100 receiving yards (he ultimately recorded 119 yards from 11 catches) and an interception in a single game.

They were true, in Bayless’ words, “big time, top of the world, playmakers” who changed the record for the Colorado Buffaloes have failed to achieve considerable height in the last fourteen years, in the span of just one game.

Prime Time’s answer to the doubters

There was a lot of anticipation and doubt surrounding Coach Prime and his “uncomfortable” methods. “A lot of guys you doubted,” Sanders said addressing the situation and drawing attention to the star quarterback who stole the show, “…one of them from an HBCU — I think he had 510 yards passing in a Power 5 football game. And he happens to be my son, and I’m proud of him, tremendously.”

Colorado Buffaloes under the guidance of Prime Time accomplished a historic milestone by featuring four receivers each surpassing 100 yards, a noteworthy first in the annals of school history. Among them were Hunter and Edwards, with the additional pair of transfers from South Florida consisting of Jimmy Horn Jr. (11 catches, 117 yards, and a touchdown) and Xavier Weaver (6 catches, 118 yards).
