Double life, the term has a broad meaning in the real world, and athletes understand it very well. When some learn to manage it, few turn out to be the victims of its consequences. It takes a lot of courage and a big heart to admit one’s mistakes, especially when they have traversed through one such journey. The Lakers All-star got divorced in 2011 after a five-year-long marriage to Shaunie O’Neal. Years after the incident, Shaq revealed through one of the interviews that it was all him and not his ex-wife to be blamed for the broken relationship.
He admitted that he was living a double life, meaning his focus was entirely on the game and winning championships despite being a family man and was unable to fulfill his part for the kids and his nearest ones.
This broken chemistry made Shaunie make a bold choice, and finally, they parted ways. “I wasn’t protecting her and protecting those vows. Sometimes when you live that double life, you get caught up. I’m not going to say it was her; it was all me.” Shaq said in a podcast.
This interview was conducted recently, and the NBA great thanked the hosts for allowing him to speak his mind. He clarified all the issues surrounding his married life.
