It’s never a good time to be the QB to replace Tom Brady. There truly aren’t any bigger shoes to fill than stepping into a role vacated by none other than the GOAT of football himself. But with the 7-time Super Bowl champion finally retiring for good this offseason, the Bucs are left with a precarious task. Finding Brady’s replacement. And for now, the answer seems to be a little tricky.
The starting QB position for the Bucs has piqued their interest, with talks of potentially picking up Baker Mayfield. Despite being hailed as one of the most promising talents upon entering the NFL, the 27-year-old quarterback’s career has been plagued with inconsistency and shortcomings in performance.

Shannon Sharpe has never been one to keep his opinions on football silenced. Especially when it comes to Tom Brady. On his primetime show Undisputed, the legendary TE has ripped apart Brady throughout his career opposite his co-host Skip Bayless. Bayless has always been one to jump to Brady’s defense. However, Shannon always tells it like it is.
But even Shannon Sharpe couldn’t withstand the idea of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers recruiting Baker Mayfield as Tom Brady’s replacement. Sharpe didn’t hold anything back as he vented out his frustration.
“The NFL Network ranked the top 101 free agents in 2023. If you want… people at home, what place do you think Baker Mayfield came in? of 101 free agents in 2023 what was Baker Mayfield? 101. Dead last.”

The monumental task of replacing Tom Terrific
Whenever Brady has left a team, granted he’s only ever left the Patriots, teams are left with a void at the center of their team. More often than not, the entire roster of teams is created to be able to create a championship roster for Tom. But without the play-caller at the center, there is a lack of identity within teams. The Patriots themselves, are still looking to revive the magic of the golden days but of course, Mac Jones is no Tom Brady.
For Mayfield, he will hope that Tampa, perhaps, is finally a stable landing spot for him. With a string of disastrous seasons, doors of opportunity will soon start to close on the QB. Wherever his next contract is, it could very well be his last, unless he is able to pull up his socks. Stepping into Brady’s shoes is never easy, but especially given Mayfield’s history, the pressure will be through the roof. Only time will tell if the Buccaneers actually pull the strings to get Baker Mayfield.
