A former Kansas City Chiefs player took shots at a former Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff. And quarterback Patrick Mahomes could remain loyal to only one party. And yesterday, the 2x Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP picked sides and lent his support.
Former Chiefs running back LeSean McCoy critiqued the Washington Commanders’ decision to hire former Kansas City OC Eric Bieniemy as their new offensive coordinator. EB replied to McCoy’s remarks. And Patrick Mahomes applauded his former coach’s composed approach.

After his illustrated 6x Pro Bowler career with the Eagles and the Buffalo Bills, LeSean McCoy spent 2019 with the Chiefs. And during that season, he fumbled the ball three times. OC Bieniemy, who is known to lose his head on the sidelines, couldn’t have been a fan of that. And that’s when the McCoy-Bieniemy debacle was born.

After two Super Bowl championships as their OC, the Chiefs and Eric finally parted their ways as the former running backs coach made his way to Washington. And Shady McCoy thinks the Commanders made a big mistake. “What’s his value? What makes him a good offensive coordinator? He has nothing to do with the pass game at all,” the 2x world champion fired the shots. And this is not even the first time that McCoy has undermined Bieniemy.
I wish him WELL but Washington don’t let the chiefs SUCCESS or coaching titles fool y’all… the traits or skills you need to be a good coordinator I haven’t seen or WITNESSED it … pic.twitter.com/Qtaes1irnx

Bieniemy responded to the harsh criticism yesterday in a classic head coach fashion, implying that he may be ready for a bigger role.

“Everybody’s entitled to their own position, to their own comments and how they feel. When it’s all said and done with, I think that’s all I have to say because he’s entitled to his own opinion. It does not impact me in any way. When you’re in this position, you have to learn to eliminate distractions,” Eric said.
Patrick Mahomes cheered Bieniemy on!
Mahomes and many other former Chiefs players spoke out in support of their former coach. “10+ years of learning under one of the greatest coaches of all time. And I cannot wait for him to continue to prove doubters wrong,” Patrick said. Fans reacted to the encouragement.

I have no question that he is a great coach Patrick. My question is can he achieve the success he had with you as his quarterback?
We shall see.

Shady mad Eb told him tuck that ball 😂
— Ty Hill (@cheetah) February 21, 2023
Former Chiefs and present-day Miami Dolphins wideout, Tyreek Hill, thinks the McCoy-Bieniemy past sideline spat has its roots in this to-and-fro. McCoy retweeted the Cheetah’s post with a bunch of laughing emojis.

I have to disagree with you Shady. Bieniemy Coach me 4 years I learned so many thing for EB and I still keep in contact with him a great husband and father. He deserves to be a head coach. https://t.co/P5Tym1BBd4

Besides Patrick and Tyreek, former Chiefs running back and 2013 NFL rushing TD leader Jamaal Charles also supported Bieniemy’s coaching potential.
