Gambling is a serious issue in the NFL, and the league has recently taken steps to curb it among players and staff. On Thursday, ‘Varney & Co.’ hosted Joe Theismann, the former Washington Redskins quarterback, and Super Bowl MVP, who gave his opinion on the NFL’s gambling policies. He said that the league’s new rules aim to “protect the integrity of the game” from any potential corruption.
Theismann explained: “I don’t think they’re going to say if you play in the NFL, you can’t gamble. But they certainly want to protect the integrity of the game as much as they possibly can. And I can certainly understand it.” He added that NFL players, who earn millions of dollars, might be allowed to gamble in the off-season, but not during the regular season. To prevent any gambling-related issues, the league has established six strict rules that apply to all players and staff.

These rules prohibit: betting on the NFL, gambling at the team facility, proxy betting, Fantasy Football, leaking of the team’s inside information, and visiting a sportsbook during the NFL playing season.
