73 Days After Tom Brady’s Farewell, Bucs Bring Back ‘Cursed’ Colors That Witnessed Longest Losing Streak in History

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had been eagerly anticipating the return of the vintage uniform ‘Bucs Creamsicle’ in 2023, which was a fan favorite during the 1970s and 1980s. Unfortunately, the team has a unanimous record of losing streak calling ‘Cursed’ Colors. But according to the Chief Operating Officer, Brian Ford, last June expressed the team’s enthusiasm for reliving the glory days with the old uniforms.

Despite this setback with ‘Cursed’ Colors, the Bucs remained determined to succeed. They underwent a rebranding in 1997, changing their team logo and jerseys. The color of the flag remained a bold and striking red, with orange football placed under the skull and the crossed sabers in white. The team made it to the playoffs.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ unforgettable 1997 season

In 1976, the city of Tampa Bay welcomed a new football team, the Buccaneers, or the Bucs for short. The team with a unique and captivating logo known as Bucco Bruce. This logo featured a pirate with a knife clenched between his teeth. It gave the team a distinct and edgy look that they proudly displayed for two decades. Unfortunately, they suffered a record-breaking 26 consecutive losses that season. However, on December 11, 1977, the Bucs finally secured their first victory against the New Orleans Saints.

Two years later, in 1979, the team defied all expectations by making it to the NFC championship game. They clinched the NFC Central title by triumphing over the Kansas City Chiefs in a rain-soaked game and then went on to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in another thrilling match. But their dreams were dashed when they lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game, with a score of 9-0.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers underwent a rebranding in 1997, changing their team logo to a reddish flag. The team played in the playoffs and won the Wild Card Playoffs against the Detroit Lions with a score of 20-10. In the Divisional Playoffs, Tampa Bay played against the Green Bay Packers but lost with a score of 7-21, resulting in their elimination from the playoffs.

Baker Mayfield takes over Tom Brady’s spot

In a recent report, Baker Mayfield, the top pick in the NFL draft, reportedly signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers worth up to $8.5 million.  He will be taking over the position previously held by the legendary retired Tom Brady.

Tom Brady former teammate, Rob Gronkowski expressed his admiration for Brady’s incredible career, stating that he believes the legendary quarterback could have continued playing until he was 50 years old.

Gronkowski has witnessed firsthand the high standard that Brady has set with his seven Super Bowl wins. He believes that modern-day quarterbacks will be chasing that record for years to come.
