Travis attended Cleveland Heights High School, where he was their star quarterback. As he moved to Cincinnati for collegiate football, he progressed into the tight end role. However, he also played quarterback for his college outfit whenever needed. Kelce reveals how Seattle Seahawks’ Geno Smith is one major reason for him to change positions.

Travis Kelce gets a reality check

During his high school days as a quarterback, Travis attended a recruiting camp at West Virginia University. This was where he first met Seahawks showman Geno Smith. “We both went to a recruiting visit at West Virginia and he was just dotting it. The way the ball was coming out of his hand was like.” Travis said this as he went on to make sounds and actions of the way the ball was just darting out perfectly from Geno’s hands. Based on his 7-on-7 performance, Travis was also convinced that he had secured the offer. However, he then revealed how he “walked out of there empty-handed and Geno Smith walked out with an offer to West Virginia”.

Though Travis thought he had a good showing at the camp, he was unsure of his talents. The Geno show at camp had got Travis doubting himself. “I just remember seeing him throw the ball and I was just sitting on the sideline like ‘Man, I ain’t got that. I can throw it a little it but that ball ain’t flying out of my hand like that man.’” This was enough of an outing for Travis to consider switching to tight end.

Geno’s season of finding himself

Geno’s name came on their conversation as Travis picked him as the stamp of the week. Also, he went on to say what a year Geno was having, and rightfully so. The Jets, where he had a poor showing, originally drafted Smith. With more losses than wins as a starter and more interceptions than touchdowns, things weren’t really kicking off for him in New York. Post this gig, he has had his fair share of trial and error around the league. He has finally found himself at the Seahawks and is doing pretty well.

Smith has a success rate of completing almost 73% of his passes this season, the highest in the league. He has also made 13 touchdown passes and been intercepted only three times. His solid showing even earned him the NFC Offensive player of the month for October. Some are holding him in contention for MVP this season as his performance sees Seattle at the top of the NFC West with a 5-3 record.
