The high-performance nature of professional sports often takes its toll on players’ minds. With greater awareness of its impact of late, many players have come out with their own experiences with depression. One of the latest NFL players to have done so is Seattle Seahawks star WR, Tyler Lockett.

Lockett’s latest tweet has highlighted his struggle with depression and anxiety for the last two years out of his seven-year-long career in the NFL. Despite this, these were the two best years of his playing career.

The WR is one of the best in his position in the league today. But that he has performed to such high standards for the Seahawks despite not being in the perfect place mentally has come as a revelation.

Lockett tweeted, “2 years out of my 7 years in the NFL thus far I played through depression and anxiety and almost quit and had my best year. I played through trauma another year and had my best year.”

The star also had a few words for anyone suffering from mental health disorders. Tyler wrote, “Moral of the story: Just keep going. You never know what’s waiting on the other side!”

Lockett’s incredible mental fortitude is on display from the way he looks at probably some of his darkest days in a positive light.

Lockett is not the first NFL player to have come open with his mental health struggles. Many stars have opened up about their dark days battling depression and other mental disorders. It has especially become possible with the NFL actively ensuring that players are in an optimal position. Not just physically but mentally.

Players such as Titans’ receiver A.J. Brown and Eagles’ right tackle Lane Johnson had also revealed last year that they had been battling depression. Conversations around mental health are now more common in the NFL than before.

Franchises and the league are trying to do more regarding players’ mental health. It has actually made it relatively easy for players to bring up the topic.
