Geno Smith contract extension
Geno Smith had started less than three games in the NFL before this season. He was considered a backup QB all his career. But everything changed with the departure of Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.
The Seahawks trusted Smith with a starting spot at the start of the season. And he made a statement in the first week itself. The Seahawks faced off with the Broncos to open the 2022 season. It was Smith vs Wilson. And Smith prevailed.
That win against the Broncos changed everything for Smith in Seattle. Suddenly, he was a star. And after a string of good performances, the Seahawks want to reward him with a contract extension. Smith will be a free agent at the end of the season. And the Seahawks have decided to open talks with him and his backup Drew Lock once the season draws to a close. Head coach Pete Carroll wants to go with the same QB room for the next season.

The Seahawks wanted a new QB after trading Russell Wilson to the Broncos. But if one looks at their performances, the Seahawks have fared better since losing their star QB. Geno Smith is fourth in the league in QB rating, behind the likes of Tua Tagovailoa, Patrick Mahomes etc. A great company to be in.
Smith is sixth in the league in passing yardage with 2199 yards thrown till the end of week nine. He is also fifth in the number of passing touchdowns thrown in the league this season, having notched up 15 of those. The opposing defenses have intercepted four of his 283 pass attempts. The Seahawks QB has 207 completions to his name, a whopping 73.1% completion rate. Every one of those stats indicates that Geno Smith has taken to the starting QB role at Seattle like fish takes to water.
