Denver Broncos saw their worst season last year. With a rookie coach Nathaniel Hackett and veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, the team that made eight Super Bowl appearances ended up with a 5-13. Their new coach, Sean Payton, has approached the franchise with a fiery outlook for his ‘playoffs team.’
In the process, the come-back coach left no chance to put the loss on the New York Jet’s new coordinator, and ex-Broncos coach Hackett. Now, a confident Aaron Rodgers teammate has come to Nathan’s defense as he calls out Sean as he sees it.

With “20 dirty hands” in #QB1 Wilson’s career-worst season, Broncos had the most humiliating NFL 2022. In a recent interview with USA Today, Payton touched on the matter directly and critiqued Nathaniel Hackett’s (who lasted 15 games) success as head coach, defining it as ‘historically bad.’ The 59-year-old Payton said, “They can only beat the [expletive] out of you so much, but everybody’s got a little stink on their hands. It’s not just [quarterback Russell Wilson]. It was a [poor] offensive line. It might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL. That’s how bad it was.”
Now a former Broncos and new Aaron Rodgers teammate stood up to his ex-team’s new returned coach from suspension and called him out, as he sees it, “a f**king bum.” Bronco-turned-Jet Billy Turner called Payton out just hours after his interview on social media, saying, “Seems like someone started training camp and is trying to soften the blow after realizing what he’s in for this season. F**king bum. #BountyGate.” Later, his teammate and ex-Packers-now-Jets wide receiver Randall Cobb also shed light on his take on this matter in ESPN New York’s “The Michael Kay Show” on Thursday. He said, “Am I surprised? No, not in this day and age. As a man, I think it’s pretty soft. Think he’s trying to soften the blow. I know who Hackett is, and I know what he brings to our team. I know how he’s going to motivate guys and how he’s going to make the game fun. And that’s one of the reasons that I’m here. He’s a big part of why I wanted to come to the Jets,” after addressing Payton as the “Bountygate coach.”

The Jets, led by Rodgers at 39, have high expectations for the upcoming 2023 season. Much like the ’22 Broncos, who came into the season with high playoff-level expectations, thanks to signing $245,000,000 Russell Wilson after a hype-filled offseason. Though, this matter with the team comments will likely create more buzz and anticipation for the Week 5 matchup between the two teams in Denver. Maybe even make it “one of the most-discussed games of this NFL season,” per PFT.
2023 NFL Pre-season expectations: Who can win?
Sean Payton, the Super Bowl-winning coach has a 3-1 career record against the Jets. This gives Broncos the competitive edge in their Week 5 game against them. And their Coach knows it as he informed everyone of his plan for the team in an interview with USA Today’s Jarrett Bell. He compared them to the 2000 Washington Redskins team saying, “spending so much (expletive) time trying to win the offseason – the PR, the pomp and circumstance, marching people around all this stuff. We’re not doing any of that. The Jets did that this year,” even though the Jets stand at a different point than the Redskins.

Though, on The Pat McAfee Show an ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky, who himself is a former NFL quarterback, confessed how he saw the Aaron Rodgers-led new Jets as “the unquestioned Super Bowl contenders”. After all, with Jets’ newest addition of young and in-their-prime players, like Sauce Gardner, and Garret Wilson, and acquiring a four-time NFL MVP as Quarterback, might help them to catch up to Payton’s winning streak and bring their win back to the table.
