Seattle Seahawks will be looking to go for broke as they try to hold onto their superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf beyond 2022. The departure of Russell Wilson from Seattle to join the Denver Broncos in a mega trade has left players like Metcalf in limbo. Even head coach Pete Carroll seems to be sensing the change in the mood within the Seahawks camp.

Metcalf enters the final year of his rookie contract, and that might be giving the franchise’s front office some sleepless nights. On Tuesday, during his appearance on the 93.3 KJR radio show, he was quoted by the Tacoma News Tribune’s Gregg Bell stating, “It’s really important to us. We love him. He maybe will go down as one of the great draft picks we’ve ever had here. We are going to do everything we can to get it done.”
After becoming the second-round pick during the 2019 NFL Draft, Metcalf has molded his freakish athletic abilities with football IQ. He has become one of the top receiving threats in the league, and with a new teammate in WR Tyler Lockett, the two have become one of the scariest WR duos. In the recently concluded 2021 season, Lockett had 75 catches for 967 receiving yards while resulting in 12 TDs.
Keeping DK Metcalf is a top priority for Seattle
The Seahawks roster dynamics have significantly shifted following the departure of both Wilson and LB Bobby Wagner, leaving Metcalf as the only remaining star player. Though they may no longer have star players in every department, the Seahawks certainly have some skill position players. By retaining Metcalf and re-signing him to a long contract, the Seahawks fans will be at ease about the dissipation of trade talks regarding their only star player.

While Carroll hasn’t gone the extra mile to dismiss trade talks about him, the organization in the background will prioritize keeping him tied down. The free agency still offers a chance for Carroll to answer some of his roster issues and make moves to appease fans and players.
Metcalf is a homegrown talent for the franchise, and their fans will be keen to see him in the blue and the green for many more seasons to come.
