Seattle Seahawks received a huge blow with the injury of their rookie cornerback. The NFL 2023 season has started, and teams and football enthusiasts alike want players in playable condition. But as the Seahawks prepare for their week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams, tension surges among the camp, hoping for the speedy recovery of their cornerback. 

Selected as the fifth overall draft by the Seahawks, Devon Witherspoon the 20-year-old cornerback is going to kick start his NFL journey. But his expectations of entering the field are plagued by the injury, resulting in a delay in his debut game.

NFL journalist Ian Rapoport took to his Twitter account to share an update on Witherspoon’s hamstring injury. Spoon’s nagging hamstring has got him the tag of “unlikely” to play against the Rams. Following the injury, the Seahawks promoted cornerback Artie Burns to their roster. However, the rookie cornerback can be seen making his debut against the Detroit Lions, considering his required fitness is in check.

Sharing the injury update, Rapoport wrote, “Seahawks first-round CB Devon Witherspoon, dealing with a hamstring injury, is not expected to make his debut today. It’ll be another week.” 

Nevertheless, the sporting landscape is all about a player’s ability to make it to the field and do the job in the best possible way. Where injuries are an undesirable but inevitable part of the game. However, it’s the season opener for both the Rams and the Seahawks that is creating a buzz in the NFL fraternity, leaving football fans in the loop of anticipation.

Seahawks and Rams dealing with injuries.

Despite Spoon’s injury, the Seahawks will be entering the Gridiron with a roster full of promising players. Rookie players like Derick Hall, and Mike Morris who dealt with injuries during preseason games returned with revived energy during the team’s practice session, showing a positive sign for the team. Simultaneously, the Rams’ camp also dealt with injuries They sidelined their receiver, Cooper Kupp for at least four games, following his hamstring injury. Furthermore, the tight end Hunter Long is on the “reserve” tag.

Both the teams have emerged from the stint of injuries, and are all set to meet each other at Lumen Field in Seattle. For the Seahawks, quarterback Geno Smith will be leading the offense facet, and for the Rams, quarterback Matthew Stafford will be taking the offense forward.
