College football is the landscape of the sport in America. Every future NFL superstar has been created in his early years in college. But maybe some people and organizations are taking bad advantage of the young athletes. Recently, the head football coach at the University of Alabama, Nick Saban, made his thoughts known about the matter. Even former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III agreed with Saban’s comments.

Saban did not hold back while accusing the Name, Image, and Likeness rules. These rules allow schools to use various resources to recruit athletes. It seems like the sport has become more about money than the actual game. And veterans like Nick Saban and RG3 will not sit quietly about it.
Nick Saban criticizes the college football culture
The Name, Image, and Likeness rule, also known as the NIL rule, has changed the landscape of college football forever. Now many schools are reaching out to athletes and sometimes just collecting all the talent. It seems like they are trying to pick up all the players that can make them some bank. The Alabama HC Nick Saban believes that this method of recruitment will make the traditional methods obsolete.
Saban did not hold back while speaking on this topic. It seems like one of his prime targets was Texas A&M. The team is notorious for using its financial resources to recruit players. Coach Saban said, “We were second in recruiting last year. A&M was first,” he continues. “A&M bought every player on their team. Made a deal for name, image, and likeness. We didn’t buy one player. But I don’t know if we will be able to sustain that in the future because more and more people are doing it.”

Nick Saban understands NIL has changed College Sports FOREVER, but student-athletes making money through NIL should never be equated to them being BOUGHT like property. Schools and coaches have USED student-athletes to make billions. Now, it’s the student-athletes’ turn.

RG3 knows about the college football culture properly. So he stands with Saban on his take on the NIL. Griffin tweeted, “Nick Saban understands NIL has changed College Sports FOREVER,” he adds, “but student-athletes making money through NIL should never be equated to them being BOUGHT like property. Schools and coaches have USED student-athletes to make billions. Now, it’s the student-athletes’ turn.” Money is not everything, some young athletes don’t chase fortunes. They want to play for the love of the beautiful game.
