There’s only a handful of players in the NFL that can go toe-to-toe with San Francisco 49ers OT Trent Williams. The offensive tackle is an 8-time Pro Bowler who was a powerhouse for the Washington franchise over the years.
But more recently, Williams took his trade to the West Coast of sunny San Francisco. In 2019, Williams sat out the season due to recurring health issues.
And subsequently, in 2020, the player was traded to the 49ers following what many believe was a dispute between the franchise and player over his treatment.

Remarkably, sitting out a year didn’t affect Williams’ output one bit. The left tackle picked up right where he left off and gelled into Head Coach Kyle Shanahan’s system.
But as things stand, Trent Williams is set to be a free agent come next week. Williams’ contract is set to run out with the 49ers once the free agency window opens.
And while there’s no certainty regarding what might happen, Williams sure did make his wishes heard loud and clear.
San Francisco 49ers is where Williams wants to be
During an appearance on the Cris Collinsworth Podcast, Williams and his teammate Richard Sherman discussed possible destinations for them come next season.
And cornerback Richard Sherman was quick to suggest that Williams will be going nowhere anytime soon. “I’ve got San Francisco. I’ve got him staying in San Francisco for the faithful,” Sherman said.
“I think he stays in San Francisco. I think he makes you guys happy for another 5-6 years and gets his gold jacket and then decides whether he wants it in Washington or San Francisco,” he added.

The offensive tackle too was not one to refute that possibility. “That’s not a bad take, fellas… That’s not a bad take. Y’all barking up the right tree,” he said.
With not many offensive tackles on the market this year, the 49ers will be hoping to hold onto Williams. And according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, it’s a deal that could soon happen. “It’ll be expensive. But when both sides want it to happen,” Rapoport tweeted.
