The 2020 NFL season ended on a sour note for the Kyle Shanahan-led San Francisco 49ers. The Super Bowl LIV runner-ups finished at the bottom of the NFC West table with a 6-10 record. Their campaign was plagued by a whole host of injuries.
The 49ers lost their star defensive end Nick Bosa in Week 2 itself to an ACL. RB Raheem Mostert, CB Richard Sherman, and even QB Jimmy Garoppolo suffered extended spells on the sidelines over the course of last season.
Garoppolo ended his 4th-season in The Bay with a 3-3 record. In 6 starts, Jimmy G threw for 1,096 yards with 7 passing touchdowns against 5 interceptions.

Various reports suggest that the 49ers could be tempted to move for wantaway Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson. The misfiring New York Jets youngster Sam Darnold is also reportedly on their radar.
One can’t help but wonder if Jimmy Garoppolo has played his last game for the San Francisco 49ers.

Will Jimmy Garoppolo start for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021?
Legendary quarterback Joe Montana was the latest guest on ESPN’s First Take earlier this week. The 4-time Super Bowl winner started the segment where he answered questions about Jimmy Garoppolo’s immediate future in San Francisco.
He said “I think you always have to be behind the players. And you know, who knows what’s going on behind the scenes? You know he’s been, it’s been tough for him to play and stay healthy throughout these times he’s been with the 49ers.
“And I think that becomes a concern if you can’t keep him on the field. I think it’s a tough decision with the cap money that he has against them.
“My guess is they because of his age, they’ll keep him to give him another chance at it….I think they just try to keep him healthy and see what they can get from there.

“And if it continues along this way, then I would imagine they tried to make a change because it’s hard to to get any kind of consistency offensively,” Montana said on the show,
Coach Shanahan and 49ers GM John Lynch have both publicly claimed that Jimmy G is their starter in the build-up to the 2021 season.
