Following Wilson’s knee injury, he is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan. The Jets’ QB sustained the injury in the first quarter against Philadelphia Eagles. As the first four minutes to play went by, Wilson took a first-and-10 snap from the Jets’ 40-yard line and ran out towards the right. However, he got tackled and once he got up, he couldn’t walk properly as he sustained a knee injury.
As a result, Wilson will not be a part of the Jets‘ offensive lineup for a while. On the other hand, senior NFL reporter Albert Breer points out the possibility of the Jets’ acquiring a new starting QB who has the experience and is highly skilled. In a tweet, Breer reflects on Mike LaFleur, the Jets offensive coordinator, who was also the position coach for Garoppolo when the former was at the 49ers.
In addition, Breer tweeted, “If Zach Wilson’s knee injury is significant, it’s worth noting that Jimmy Garoppolo’s position coach in San Francisco from 2017-20, Mike LaFleur, happens to be the Jets offensive coordinator. And of course Robert Saleh was with the Niners then too.”
Jimmy Garoppolo and his trade conundrum with the San Francisco 49ers
In retrospect, Garoppolo injured his calf but later had to undergo a shoulder injury. Surprisingly, the shoulder surgery took the 49ers’ management aback. However, with the beginning of the preseason games, the 49ers are not hearing any trade talks concerning Garoppolo even though the team allowed him to be traded.

Additionally, his replacement Trey Lance is cementing his place in the offensive lineup. Garoppolo remains on the 49ers roster and the QB is on board with the team’s plan.
There is not much Garoppolo can do at the moment. If the Jets approach him with a potential deal and the guarantee of starting games in Wilson’s absence, Jimmy G wouldn’t be the one to refuse it.
