Jimmy Garoppolo told the 49ers that he wanted to trade earlier in the offseason and he had his reasons. However, Kyle Shanahan has said that he doesn’t see any trade talks making headway going into the regular season. This puts Garoppolo’s situation in a pickle since there is not much any team will do now. However, considering his caliber, there can be hope for him.

Head Coach Kyle Shanahan threw light on whether there’s any current trade interest in Garoppolo. The QB took the 49ers to Super Bowl LIV and nearly to Super Bowl LVI, which makes him a valuable asset. Responding to the question, Shanahan said, “I believe that goes on with his agents, but none that I hear of.”

Circumstances can change for any team in a split second and that is probably why the 49ers haven’t cut him off yet. Jimmy Garoppolo continues to be on the team roster even though he received the green light for trade from the management.

Moreover, Garoppolo seems to be on board with the strategy of not being cut from the 49ers roster. This is because if a starter sustains an injury in any other team or the 49ers itself; Jimmy G becomes far more likely to make something far closer than the $24.2 million salary that he’ll lose once he’s cut.

The QB Garoppolo wants a trade after an array of surgeries that led to his replacement by rookie Trey Lance. The #3 pick of the 2021 NFL draft started a few games for the 49ers and now finds a permanent spot as a starter.

To sum up, even though Garoppolo wants to get traded, he is nowhere near trade talks, per Shanahan. As the regular season approaches and Jimmy G continues to be up for trade, anything can happen if there is an injury on any team.
