The situation is pretty much worse inside the Panthers locker room after the team went down to 1-5 after the loss against the Rams in Week 6. The main reason is a fragile quarterback depth chart and the failure of Baker Mayfield to meet expectations. However, the recent update on Sam Darnold might bring smiles to several faces as the QB is set to return and possibly have a spot in the 53-man roster.

Apart from winning a game against the Saints in Week 3, there is nothing else the Panthers can boast about. With several hopes, the Oklahoma product, Baker Mayfield, was acquired by the Panthers this offseason, but there has been no improvement in his performance.

In fact, the passer recently struggled from an ankle injury that kept him away from Week 6. As a result, PJ Walker covered him but incurred a serious neck injury in that game. Meanwhile, Sam Darnold, who was ruled out due to an ankle injury in the preseason finale got out of the injured reserve.

The passer was reportedly ready for the practice on Wednesday. For the past few weeks, his health was on close watch. The Panthers will now have a span of 21 days to evaluate his condition and activate into the 53-man roster.

While this news is on the table, there is no clarity on whether Darnold will start for the next game. Regardless of whatever the developments happen, Baker Mayfield vows to try hard to get back on track. “I only care about winning, no matter what my stats are.”

“I haven’t taken care of the ball well enough. That’s pretty much the only stat I care about.” Mayfield said to the reporters a few weeks ago. “I’ve got to command this group better. I have to lead better, I have to make sure everybody’s on the same page to where we are executing at a much higher level,” he added.

Head Coach Matt Rhule is not worried about Baker Mayfield or the current QB situation

The Carolina Panthers are currently the lowest-ranked offense with a shattered QB chart. However, head coach Matt Rhule didn’t seem concerned about Baker Mayfield or his gameplays.

Rhule mentioned that there are several other aspects to rectify and evaluate to win the games. “The quarterback always takes a little more blame than maybe sometimes he deserves,” Rhule said in an interview. “Sometimes they don’t. … To me, right now, I’m in that process of saying, ‘Hey, what can we do to improve the offense in general.”’ he added.

Tom Brady and Co are next up for the Panthers, who are also desperate for a win. A thorough introspection is necessary for the franchise if they wish to keep its playoff aspirations alive.
