The New Orleans Saints have been dealing with several players’ injuries, including Scott Lashley, Calvin Throckmorton, Andrus Peat, and Alontae Taylor, all injured before 5th August. The 9th day of the training was particularly bad for the offensive line. WR Tre’Quan Smith, WR Rashid Shaheed, and RB Eno Benjamin have joined the list. Head coach Dennis Allen spoke to the press and confirmed the news.

Allen: “It looks like, you know Benjamin has ruptured Achilles. They sent him over for Imaging, so that was the initial diagnosis. We held Brian Breese out with a calf injury. Doesn’t seem like that’s going to be anything of significance. We also held out Demario Davis. He went over for some Imaging on his calf. I don’t believe any of these to be you know serious, but they are soft tissue injuries. Rasheed Shaheed and Tre’Quan Smith both had both left practice for the groin.”

Benjamin’s ruptured Achilles and Brian Brysee’s calf injury is concerning, the team remains optimistic about their return to the field. It was confirmed that Benjamin’s injury was a non-contact injury, so he will be available soon. The Saints have been hit hard with so many sudden injuries to their offense line. But it seems like there is a growing trend across the NFL circuit concerning RBs, other than injuries.

RBs being under-valued in the NFL?

NFL running backs are facing a concerning trend as respected veteran rushers remain unsigned. Even top performers like Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette, and Kareem Hunt are struggling to find new contracts at the age of 27. Teams are allocating less draft capital to running backs and are quicker to move on from them. The league’s emphasis on star backs dominating offensive workloads has shifted, prompting questions about the future of the position and the players’ financial prospects. But unlike other teams, coach Allen has got Saints covered for the position of RB.

Although the Saints have lost their first-choice offense, coach Dennis Allen is not worried much as he was mightily impressed by emerging talents in Lucas Krull and Anthony Johnson. Carl Granderson has also managed to impress Allen. So, for the first few weeks, Saints are covered.
