America’s team is in trouble. 26-year-old Pass Rusher Randy Gregory is going to play for the Denver Broncos instead of the Dallas Cowboys in 2022. Reports suggest the deal would amount to $70 million for five years. The move came after the Cowboys had already announced on social media that the outside linebacker would be coming back to Dallas. But as it happened, there were some last-minute disagreements between the two parties, and Gregory signed with the Broncos.

Denver has now signed two big-ticker players on either side of the ball. $28 million out of the total $70 million is guaranteed, which Gregory will take home in the first two years itself. Looks like the Cowboys’ loss has certainly become Denver’s gain.

Why did Dallas Cowboys Lose Out?

Reportedly, the deal fell through because of a certain clause that was allegedly added to the new contract by Dallas. Which the team claims was already there, and it is standard procedure for all players, except Dak Prescott.

The clause said that Gregory would be “voiding his contract if fined/suspended for any drug offense or violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.” The pass-rushing position is a premium position in the NFL. Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame Coach Jimmy Johnson used to say that the game of football boils down to one guy throwing the ball, the QB. And another one stopping him from doing so, is the pass rusher.

Denver has certainly locked in for this year. Both of these positions are set for them. Whether the new QB in Russell Wilson will fit in immediately or will it take time to get flowing remains to be seen. But they do have the right players in the position.

On the other hand, the Cowboys have not been doing well this offseason. They revealed that Amari Cooper is on his way out and traded him to Cleveland Browns for a measly fifth-round pick. Next, they signed Michael Gallup to a big contract but he will be coming off an injury. Although, it is arguable if he would be more valuable for the Cowboys than Cooper.

America’s Team also had to restructure Dak’s contract to make it more cap-friendly. They said that they had seen that coming and made accommodations for the same. Although, fans doubted if they knew they would lose out on Randy Gregory. And if they saw that one coming.
