The former Super Bowl champion is a Richmond, Virginia native and recent reports seem to have excited Commanders fans about the possibilities of a Russell Wilson trade. But during his recent appearance on The Today Show, he put all the doubts to rest while stating, “I’m from Richmond, I know what you mean, I got people hitting me up every day, all my friends and all that from the East Coast but Seattle’s the place I’m at right now and I love it.

While discussing the move, the veteran QB openly claimed to be happy to continue with the Seahawks franchise. With the Today Show describing his answer to be one ‘spoken by a true diplomat’, he never talked about his contract situation. He never gave proper attention to trade rumors involving him, and it might just be paper talk itself.

The Commanders have not made it a secret that they will look at recruiting players for their QB position. Even head coach Rivera entering his third season in Washington believes the time is now to bring in a quality QB. With Wilson dropping out of their search, the Commanders might need to look elsewhere for someone to replace QB Taylor Heinicke as their starter.

The other potential solution for Washington will be 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo. He is also a former Super Bowl champion and a viable option for a team looking for the next step. But his injury record might be concerning to the franchise, who will test the free agency as a last resort.
