The 2022 season had various surprises for different teams in Week 1. While some struggled to build their offense and defense due to a lack of players, the management of the Denver Broncos was dealing with a different dilemma despite having talented athletes in the locker room. Specifically, Russell Wilson and head coach Nathaniel Hackett’s ongoing drama is getting intense with each passing Week.

Despite acquiring a veteran who played for 10 seasons with a top NFL team this offseason, crediting a humongous $245 million into his purse, the head coach seems to have trust issues with his new starting quarterback.
In fact, the 42-year-old is a fresher in his job because he was formerly serving as an offensive coordinator for the Packers. While he is trying to nail his first year as a head coach, his conservative play and trust issues with Wilson, over handing him the ball, are impacting the franchise’s legacy built over the years.
The quarterback’s season opener against his former team, Seattle Seahawks, and losing a winnable game sowed the seeds for fans to speculate on his relationship with Hackett.
Reacting to the overall situation, NFL analyst Colin Cowherd made a very bold statement against Hackett. According to him, Wilson is not the one to be held responsible, but the new head coach is.
“It’s the defense that’s the strength of the Broncos. Their offense is the sh*t show,” said Cowherd in a recent episode of his podcast. He mentioned that organizing the offense must be his priority to win the games.
“… So I think the troubling part is the offense is in total disarray. Hackett’s an offensive guy. It’s the most disorganized offense with good personnel in the league, that’s a huge problem, a huge red flag.” Cowherd added to his explanation.
Meanwhile, he also suggested that coastal cities and those associated with teams like Miami and Tampa Bay heavily invest in weapons to strengthen their offense. But others rely on their defense to play their seasons. And the Broncos are one of them.
Russell Wilson affirms that there is a scope for improvement between him and HC
While the first regular season game turned out to be a frustrating loss for Wilson, he managed to pull the strings back in Week 2. A thumping 16-9 victory against the Houston Texans has mitigated the criticisms, and the quarterback affirmed that his relationship with head coach Nathaniel Hackett was getting better.

“I believe in Coach Hackett,” Wilson said after the Week 2 win. “I believe in his understanding of the game. We’re going to keep getting better and better. This is a journey for us together, and I’m excited about it.” Wilson added to his explanation.
Moreover, he also affirmed that they need to clean up their Week 1 mess and build trust. It will eventually happen as they go deep into the season.

The 49ers, Raiders, and Colts are next on the line for the Broncos in the upcoming weeks. Hopefully, they live up to the expectations of their fans. And Wilson justifies his lucrative contract with a Super Bowl title.
