According to their current record, no one would think the LA Rams to be the actual defending champions of the NFL. Post their recent loss to Tom Brady’s Buccaneers, the Rams move to 3-5 for the year as the season comes to its midway point. Quarterback Matthew Stafford will hope to forget this poor run as he undergoes concussion protocol.

Sean McVay’s men haven’t found the rhythm this season and many elements surround that. However, to add to his misery, he might be without a leading quarterback for Sunday’s clash with Arizona. Coming from a recent loss, the Cardinals will look to bounce back against a disheveled LA outfit. The two teams will participate in their bottom of the NFC West clash.
Matthew Stafford in concussion protocol
In a recent press conference, Head coach Sean McVay revealed that his quarterback Matthew Stafford was to undergo concussion protocol. There is no clarity of when he picked up the injury. But, this news comes after the Rams lost a last-minute thriller to Tom Brady’s vintage showing.

During the matchup, the ex-Detroit star was sacked 4 times and took 8 hits. Stafford has been out of form thus far. He has a 1:1 ratio for touchdowns to interceptions for the year. With 8 a piece, he is having quite an underwhelming 2022 season for his standards.
Head Coach McVay understands his absence would be a huge loss for the team. However, with the dangers around head injuries, following protocol is very important for them. “It’s more importantly about the person than the player, in these types of things, as we know,” said the HC. He even stated that the veteran wants to be out there with his teammates competing. But addressing the situation at hand is of more importance.
A new opportunity

Although their starter hadn’t been putting up the numbers they would have liked, having no experienced quarterbacks as their backup unit is a worry for the Rams. Stafford hasn’t been completely ruled out for the Sunday game but remains a doubt. In his absence, coach McVay will look to John Wolford. The young quarterback doesn’t have much league experience. Third-string Bryce Perkins will also be available. Perkins has not made his NFL debut yet.
With the young quarterbacks having nothing to lose, McVay could have a blessing in disguise as Stafford’s injury. If either of his backups steps up and rises to the occasion, he could have a season turnaround for his squad.
